On October 25, actors John Arcilla, Albert Martinez, and Matteo Guidicelli discussed their views about winning acting awards versus having a box office hit.
At the media conference for ‘Penduko,’ which LionhearTV covered, Martinez noted that having new artists would often focus on gaining awards to establish themselves in showbiz.
“Ako rin gusto ko dalawa eh. Pero, any way, ang progression kasi ng career ko, kapag nag-uumpisa ka in your career, best talaga ‘yung to win awards para makilala ka. Para mailagay ka sa certain position, ‘yung trust in you as an actor.”Â
However, once they gained a footing in the entertainment industry, their next goal would be having a box office hit.
“Kapag na-achieve mo na ‘yun, ang next goal mo naman, box office. So ‘yun ‘yung steps na kailangan mo gawin.”
As for Guidicelli, he remarked that he doesn’t focus on awards but only wants people to appreciate his upcoming fantasy movie.Â
“I’ve never had a box office film or soap or anything. I’ve only had one award– my film One Saturday Night Chills, and di ko po iniisip po ‘yun, kung mangyayari, mangyayari man.Â
“But the credit goes through these people that worked in this film: our producer Jaja, our set director, [and] to our AD–these people worked so hard for all of this to happen. So sana magustuhan ng mga kabataan natin at ng mga Pilipino.Â
“Sana, we’ll have an international screening also, no, so sana Filipinos abroad would appreciate this film.”
As for Arcilla, he noted that as an actor, he would want to gain both acting awards and box office hits.
“‘Yung kasing gusto mong ma-achieve as an actor is nagagawa mo ‘yung trabaho and at the same time, tinatangkilik ka ng maraming tao or relatable ‘yung ginagawa mo sa audience.Â
“Hindi ko talaga siya mapaghiwalay, na in terms of gusto mo isa lang ‘yung sagot kasi para sa akin, isa sa mga formula na gusto mong maranasan pag actor ka, or nandito ka sa ganitong klaseng trabaho is, relatable na ‘yung ginagawa mo at the same time kumikita ka pa. So hindi mo talaga mapaghiwalay.”
As for their upcoming action-fantasy movie, ‘Penduko’ stars Matteo Guidicelli, Albert Martinez, John Arcilla, and Kylie Versoza.Â
The cast also features Mark Anthony Fernandez, Phoebe Walker, Marissa Sanchez, Candy Pangilinan, Andrea Del Rosario, Arron Villaflor, Gene Padilla, Joe Vargas, Martin Venegas, Keagan De Jesus, Kurt Delos Reyes, Tyro Daylusan, Zombie Tugue, TJ Valderrama, Jobelyn Manuel, JC Tiuseco, Andrea Babierra, and Annika Co.
