On November 21, award-winning actress Dolly De Leon recalled best practices she observed from Hollywood productions that she hoped would get implemented in the Philippines.Â
At the media event by her new management team, CreaZion Studios, which LionhearTV covered, De Leon emphasized the well-prepared pre-production process of international projects.
“First of all, ‘yung pre-prod aspect. ‘Yung pre-prod aspect ‘yung talagang clear ang communication between hair and make up, wardrobe, Doon kasi ang ginagawa nila, ine-email na nila ‘yung actors agad and tinatanong nila kami, anong look ang gusto mo for your character.Â
“Dito kasi hindi ‘yun nangyayari eh. Siguro mangyayari ‘yun sa mga bida, pero sa mga support di masyado. Doon talagang they cover all the bases.”Â
She then cited examples of how the production team would communicate with her about the details of her role, from hair to wardrobe.
“They would communicate with you and ask you what hair [do] you want. Kunwari, for this, my character–I don’t [want] her to have short hair, I can request [for] extensions or a wig, and they would be more than happy to provide that. Also, ‘yung wardrobe they would [get] in touch with me and ask me, ‘How do you imagine your character dressed? What are her colors and then?'”
She then highlighted the collaborative process of the entire production.
“So it’s very collaborative in all departments. Hindi lang with the directors, minsan pati with the writers, you can always give your input and tell them– I don’t think my character would feel this. So talagang teamwork siya.Â
“It’s not like na may isang tao na in control of everybody else na sunod-sunuran lang lahat, doon kumbaga it takes a village, kumbaga it takes a village to make a film. It’s very collaborative on so many levels.”
De Leon starred in the international film Triangle of Sadness, for which she became the first Filipino actor to get a Golden Globe nomination.
She also has confirmed international projects lined up for starting next year, including the HULU series Nine Perfect Strangers with Nicole Kidman; Between the Temples, written and directed by Nathan Silvers; and Grand Death Lotto with Akwafina, John Cena, and Simu Liu.
De Leon recently starred in the Kapamilya film A Very Good Girl with Kathryn Bernardo.
