On September 19, Kapuso artist Carlo San Juan recounted his journey from being a tricycle driver to a celebrity.
At the media event for Regal Studio Presents’ 2nd anniversary, which LionHearTV covered, award-winning director Jose Javier Reyes revealed to reporters about San Juan’s humble beginnings as a tricycle driver.
San Juan then highlighted his showbiz journey as a tricycle driver, a varsity player, and a Kapuso star.
“Masasabi ko po sa sarili na ayun malayo na pero malayo pa po kasi from–isipin ninyo po, nagtri-tricycle, tapos kailangan pang mag-varsity para makapag-aral. ‘Yung mga ganon po. Tapos nandito na po ako ngayon.”
He also noted that while he has become a new celebrity, he still maintains closeness with the tricycle drivers back home.
“Ano po, kapag-umuuwi po ako sa amin, ano po, minsan kapag pupunta akong labasan, nakikisabay na lang ako, tatawagin na lang nila ako. Tapos, ‘Ano pasabay ako, sa labasan.’ Magkakakilala pa rin naman po kami, close pa rin naman po kami lahat, tapos kapag kunwari sasakay ako sa kanila mas lalakihan ko na lang ‘yung bayad, tapos matutuwa sila, ganon.”
Some reporters noted that San Juan’s life story was a ‘Regal-Movie’ worthy narrative.
As for his role in Regal Studio Presents, San Juan discussed how close and similar his character was to his personal life.
“Masasabi ko ‘yung role na ‘to, ‘yung story mismo, sobrang lapit sa akin personally. Siyempre, lahat naman tayo dito, lumalaban para sa pamilya natin. And ako, blessed kasi nagagawa ko siya through my passion which is acting and performing.
“So I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Regal and GMA, especially Tito Joey and Miss Roselle, dahil binibigyan po ako ng work and dahil po dito, nakikila ko po ‘yung sarili ko and mas nalalaman ko pa po ‘yung kung ano pa ‘yung kaya kong gawin.”
