On September 26, artist Angela Morena discussed her views on abuse victims experiencing ‘victim blaming.’
At the media event for ‘BJJ: Woman on Top,’ which LionhearTV covered, Morena felt saddened knowing the culture of victim blaming towards people who experienced abuse.
“It is serious to those experience it and I’m sad, that’s what I feel. I’m sad sa mga, even hindi sa ganong bagay eh, sa mga tao na hindi pinaniniwalaan na hindi totoo. It’s very sad, sa mga taong ganon na they don’t listen, they don’t understand kung ano ‘yung pinagdaanan or napagdaanan ng tao na ‘yun.”
She highlighted her message of kindness and understanding towards those people who experienced abuse.
“I think ang message ko na lang, let us be kind always, kasi hindi natin alam kung ano ‘yung nararamdaman or pinagdadaanan ng mga tao. Let us take this something serious, let’s not joke around about it,. Magkaroon tayo ng puso.”
She then cited how she related to her character’s journey from finding her strength.
“Somehow, I could relate sa character [ni] Elise because I was once weak, I was once discouraged, and I was– once experienced, a bad experience, a traumatic experience. Pero, hindi ko naman sinasabi na I’m still weak now, pero I’m getting there, I’m getting stronger, paunti-unti, sa past experiences, all of the past bad experience or any experience in our life na may natutunan tayo.”
She noted how she learned about standing up and advocating for herself through her role in the Vivamax movie.
“And to relate myself to Elise, yes, sa buhay, may mga natutunan ako and I was once na sinabihan na hindi ko kayang mag-isa. Yes, doon ako naka-relate sa kaniya. And I learned also na maka-appreciate ng mga bagay and to stand my own, to be on top, not on anybody, but on top of those bad feelings, negative experiences or bad experiences.”
As for their upcoming film, ‘BJJ: Woman On Top’ stars Morena, Yuki Sakamoto, Alexa Ocampo, Jiad Arroyo, Jela Cuenca, and Keanna Reeves.
Under the direction of Linnet Zurbano, ‘BJJ: Woman On Top’ started streaming on September 29 under Vivamax.
