The brief lighthearted moment, seems to be alluded to the currently trending discussion about the use of AI (artificial intelligence) in the field of broadcasting.
Vice Ganda and Vhong Navarro exchanged playfully with Mini Miss U contestant, Laurence Rhianne Quintos, from Sampaloc, Manila, last Friday, September 29. After a series of questions with the 5-year old aspiring beauty queen, hosts Vhong Navarro and Vice Ganda noticed Quintos’ slow and intermittent manner of speaking, prompting the Vice to ask the kid if she was an AI or a human contestant.
“Contestant ba talaga ‘to o AI,” asked the Phenomenal Box Office Superstar. Since the usage of artificial intelligence has been a popular subject nowadays, in social media, the hosts’ conversation with the Mini Miss U contestant earned chuckles among the live audiences.
“Oo nga, uso ngayon ang A.I., “ agreed Navarro.
“Baka may mga sumasaling A.I. sa mga contests no? Nakakatakot!”, Vice Ganda said, expressing his worry of A.I.s possibly joining beauty pageants. As a response, Navarro playfully asked the kid if she was indeed A.I.
“Tanungin nga natin: tao ka ba o AI?,” he asked, to which Quintos answered with, “Opo,”.
Vice Ganda, meanwhile, who was obviously just teasing the kid, affirmed her answer by saying: “Tao. Magandang tao,”.
The online buzz about artificial intelligence has been undeniably ignited by GMA Network’s introduction of A.I. sportscasters for the 99th season of the National Collegiate Sports Association (NCAA), which has since began airing on GMA Network’s GTV Channel on September 24.
While GMA Sports has already cleared their intent of making such a move, disproving other concerned groups’ worry of a possible AI takeover in broadcasting, it seems the conversation is likely to go on, as more and more personalities and groups, hop on the bandwagon.
