The superstar comedian seemingly called out concerned authorities over its lack of ample support to aspiring athletes.
Vice Ganda promised a young baseball team financial help to ease their trouble in finding additional funds for its young members. During theĀ Mini Miss U segment of October 3 episode of It’s Showtime, the Kapamilya TV host noticed the group of young boys in uniformed shirts, among the live studio audience.
The team, called Baseball Tamaraws Philippines, apparently is set to represent the country in an international baseball tournament in Singapore. After finding out some of the members are yet to secure their plane tickets, Vice did not hesitate to pledge help, although not without telling a chuckle-worthy joke.
“Magbibigay ako ng tulong sa inyo pero sa uniform nyo ha, Vice Ganda ang nakalagay,” he said, making the kids laugh, but at the same time, be grateful towards the comedian’s lovely gesture.
It was, however, also an opportunity for Vice to address an often-ignored issue: the lack of proper support for young athletes. The TV host seemingly called out concerned authorities for its failure to prioritize grassroots-level programs, that nurture athletes at the very young age.
“Sana masuportahan din ng ano ito, ng government, ” he said, adding that support should overflow for these aspiring athletes when they’re still starting.
“Suportahan natin sila habang nagsisimula, hindi kapag nanalo na. May iba kasi didikitan lang kapag nanalo na. Kailangan grassroots, sa simula pa lang sinusuportahan na,” he insisted, before giving his early congratulations and wishing good luck to the kids.
This is not the first time that Vice Ganda spoke about social issues, and tried to use his platform and influence to address pressing sociopolitical problems that affect every Filipino. This is perhaps one of the reasons why the so called ‘Phenomenal Unkabogable Box Office Star’, continues to attract both supporters and detractors.
As ‘confidential funds’, and other similar allegations of squandering and corruption continue to flog the government, one can say that Vice Ganda remains the clear and defiant voice that represent us all, when it seems impossible to speak up.
