On October 22, former actress and parenting influencer Rica Peralejo-Bonifacio reacted to the viral video of a pastor shaming a former member of their church.
On her Tiktok account, Peralejo-Bonifacio voiced her disapproval of how the female pastor called out some of their former church members who left.
“I was really bothered when I saw the video. Because, like, for whatever reason, this church member left, whether may mali siya or tama ba talaga siya or what.
“That shouldn’t have been done to shame a person or persons, kasi feeling ko baka marami ‘yun and nagpapatama sila sa stereotype ng mga umalis sa church.”
She felt horrified with how the church leaders would shame their members who decided to leave their congregation.
“And I was just so horrified that leaders in the church would actually go out of their way to bully and shame someone [who’s] going through that. And we all know that kapag umaalis ang isang tao sa church that [has probably] something to do with their faith.
“Like maybe, you know, they were wrong or the church leaders were wrong, and in this case, I really feel like talaga naman dapat umalis ka na lang kung ganito ‘yung klase ng mga taong nakakasama mo sa church.”
She also noted that no matter the circumstance, the church leader shouldn’t have shamed their former members.
“I don’t want to say that because I don’t really know their context. I mean, if they could do that publicly [what] could they do in private? And honestly, I feel [really] bad for the people in the video [also] and even the head pastor who released that video and a couple of other videos– naka-catch ‘yung sinasabi niya or siya mismo ‘yung gumawa.
“I feel bad kasi no matter how bad you are, to ridicule you and to shame you is too painful. And I don’t want her to go through that. Even she has done it to others, pero wala tayong magagawa kasi sa public niya kasi piniling sabihin ‘yung mga bagay na ‘to.”
She then surmised that a culture in a church should not be a detriment to a person’s mental health and faith.
“It doesn’t mean that you’re in a church, it would automatically make you Godly, sometimes, human beings, like kahit ako, nagagawa ko ‘to sa ibang tao, na feeling ko mas hindi pa tuloy sila naniniwala sa Diyos dahil sa akin di ba? So tama lang na kapag nakaka-apekto na sa buhay mo, sa mental health mo, sa pagtingin mo sa Diyos, ‘yung mga kasama mo sa simbahan, it’s really time to think about it kung ito ba ‘yung tamang lugar sayo.”
