The magic realism film is planned to be released during the latter part of the year.
GMA Pictures Senior Vice President, Nessa Valdellon, along with lead star, Alessandra de Rossi, hopes that Firefly will still make it to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), this year. The first four entries of the festival was already named last month, but four more titles are set to join this year’s roster.
“Yes. But we were waiting to bring it to big, big audience. Kasi it’s a big film; it’s meant to be seen on big screen. Ang ganda ng pagkaka-shoot ni Neil Daza—siya ‘yung cinematographer namin dito—we wanted to wait for a possible festival nga, as you can see,” said Valdellon, during an intimate conversation with some members of the press. It was also her answer to the query about whether the highly-anticipated film was intended to be her first film as GMA Pictures’ Senior VP. Originally planned to be released during pre-pandemic, Firefly was temporarily put on hold.
As for Alessandra de Rossi, who is co-leading the film, alongside newbie child star, Euwenn Mikaell, she also hopes that film can still make the cut.
“Yes, sana kung makakapasok. Merong ano ba diyan, petition? Puwede ba kayong pumirma?” she said, jokingly asking if there’s a petition to sign to ensure the film’s placement on this year’s lineup. The actress noted that it has been a while since she last starred in an MMFF entry, and Firefly could make her hope to ride an MMFF float again, happen.
“Seryoso! Pang-ano, pang-Best Actress Award. ‘Uy nag-Mano Po ako! Pero ‘yun nga, puro serious films pag-MMFF. Pero sana. It’s been a while; sakay tayo sa float!, “ she quipped.
Also starring, Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Epi Quizon, and more, including Dingdong Dantes in a special participation, Firefly is an inspiring film about a boy who looks for a magical place described by her mother.
