Kapuso executive Nessa Valdellon is optimistic that the local film industry will bounce back with upcoming big releases.
GMA Pictures Senior Vice President, Nessa Valdellon, is convinced that local cinema will revitalize sooner than expected. During the mini-press conference for the upcoming GMA Public Affairs/GMA Pictures film, Firefly, she admitted that the industry has been slow in recuperating from the impacts of the pandemic, but she shared her confidence about it bouncing back real soon.
“Local film offerings haven’t been doing well , so the entire 2023, “ she said, adding that she projects Star Cinema’s A Very Good Girl will do well at the box office. Well, it seems she is right, as Star Cinema recently revealed the Kathryn Bernardo and Dolly de Leon-starrer has also made major post-pandemic milestones, including the biggest opening gross of a Filipino R-13 film.
“But we think that the upcoming big films, sometimes it’s the casting, sometimes it’s the story, so we’re expecting the upcoming Star Cinema (film) will do well. Valdellon also noted the convincing promise of the films already revealed to be part of this year’s MMFF, sharing her confidence about the local moviegoers going back to cinemas, this Holiday season.
“We’re expecting that to do well, and we do think, that all of the entries so far, that have a big chance of making it to MMFF, parang ang gaganda. So, we think, the audience will come back for Christmas, for the festival. We hope that they’ll be able to watch ‘Firefly’ at the time. Let’s see, tulungan nyo kami!” she said, adding her plea to the members of the press to help her make her hopes come true.
