These six films were chosen from a pool of 30 submissions, constituting the second batch of possible entries for this year’s MMFF. The decision to increase the number of selected films from four to six was driven by the sheer volume of entries received, reflecting the enthusiasm and competitiveness of the local film industry.
Among the notable movies that vied for inclusion in MMFF 2023 but did not make the final cut were ‘Pieta,’ starring Nora Aunor; ‘Shake, Rattle, and Roll,’ an ensemble cast film; and ‘In His Mother’s Eyes,’ featuring Maricel Soriano, Roderick Paulate, and LA Santos.
Previously, the MMDA had announced the first four official entries for the holiday film festival. These initial entries include ‘A Mother and Son’s Story,’ with Sharon Cuneta and Alden Richards; ‘K(ampon),’ featuring Beauty Gonzalez and Derek Ramsay; ‘Penduko,’ starring Matteo Guidicelli and Cristine Reyes; and ‘Rewind,’ with Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes in lead roles.
The full MMFF 2023 lineup promises a diverse and exciting array of films for audiences to enjoy.
