The two-division world boxing champ notably appealed to the President, to help him retrieve the unclaimed balance of the prize he won in 1997.
It seems it was Coco Martin who heard the plea of boxing champ, Luisito Espinosa, to the President, last year. Espinosa hit the headlines, last year, when he appealed to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, to claim the remaining balance of the $150,000 prize he won in a match against Argentinian boxer, Carlos Rios, in 1997.
Prior to returning to the Philippines, last year, after opportunities for him in the United States became murky. He said in an interview that he has used up all his savings, that he has been relying to the help of friends, to survive.
“Down na down ako eh. Talagang para akong tinapakan ngayon. Para akong basahan ba,” he shared.
Well, it seems aid has come his way, in the form of Coco Martin, who reportedly signed him up for a role in the top rating action-drama, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo. What’s great about such a role is that it is one very close to his heart: as a former boxer and a coach.
Judging the early developments of his role, Roberto, on the show, it looks like his story his story represents a part of Roberto’s. Espinosa notably tried making fortunes overseas to make ends meet, but unfortunately struggled doing so, hence him returning in the country last year.
At the moment, Roberto is projected to guide Ronwaldo Martin’s character, Santino, in his attenmpt to become a boxer, himself. Let’s see if things will go great for Espinosa on the show.
