On October 4, Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards admitted having doubts when they started ‘Five Break Ups and A Romance.’
At the media event for ‘Five Break Ups and A Romance,’ which LionhearTV covered, Richards emotionally remarked that he, Julia Montes, and their director, Irene Emma Villamor, were not in a good place when they started the project.
“Kasi, when we started this film, Direk Irene, myself, and Juls–[we] had our doubts. We all came from different walks of life. And we have done [various] projects in the past, but I think this film is a blessing to all of us because mayroong nabuo.
“Kami pong tatlo, parang when we started, we were not in a good place in our lives.”
However, Richards acknowledged how making the film helped him get back on track and even made the entire cast and crew ‘stronger.’
“But this film–Direk you have done something with this story ha, done something na changed us and made us stronger. So doon sa tanong kung paano ko winelcome si Jules, I think first day pa lang ng script reading nakilala namin ‘yung isa’t isa.
“Well, Direk Irene, I’ve worked with her for the longest time, and assistant director pa lang si Direk–naka-work ko na siya. So it’s been a decade. Si Juls first time, pero, sasalo ako ng bala (para) sa dalawang ‘to eh.”
When asked about what happened, while holding back his emotions, Richards maintained that it was personal to him and that the making ‘Five Break Ups and Romance’ had done so much good for him.
“I don’t want to go into details because it’s very personal. But, I think what I can share is how much good ‘yung nagawa ng paggawa ng Five Break Ups and a Romance sa buhay ko during that time.
“Alam ni Direk ‘yun, alam ni Juls ‘yun, na-kwento ko sa kanila. And you know, sometimes you think, you’re strong– shot na lang– pero parang minsan, sasabihin mo sa mundo na okay akong mag-isa, kaya ko mag-isa, pero hindi ‘yun eh.”
He also confessed that he avoided doing films for four years because he felt the pressure of ‘Hello Love Goodbye’s success.
“Real talk lang din po, Hello Love Goodbye did break records. and I think it’s already part of history. And by that time po, parang nahirapan na rin po ako to accept projects in terms of movies. But ‘yung–in that four years, four years po akong namahinga sa cinema, after Hello Love Goodbye, kasi alam mo ‘yun, parang may feeling kasi na na-achieve mo na ‘yung magre-record. And you are already there.”
He then craved fulfilling his creative passion as an actor, which motivated him to do the romance drama.
“If it’s not right, it’s not right, kung mali sa pakiramdam, mali siya. Pero ito kasi, tama na agad eh. So that’s also the reason why tinanggap ko po ‘to. Parang ‘yun po ‘yung sinabi ko sa sarili ko, ‘Hahayaan ko bang mamatay ‘yung passion ko sa pag-arte dahil lang sa numero, dahil lang sa mga records.’ That’s the death of an actor for me. The only failure in life is not doing the things you want to do and you need to do.”
