Susan Africa’s shift to ‘nakakaluwag-luwag’ roles garners attention

Renowned character actress Susan Africa is currently making waves for her glimpse into her character’s role in the upcoming installment of ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.’

In the recently unveiled 7-minute trailer for ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,’ it appears that Susan and Pen Medina, portraying the parents of “Mokang/Monique” played by Lovi Poe, have transcended their usual portrayals of suffering or impoverished roles.

This development has sparked excitement among netizens as Susan seems to have ventured beyond her familiar territory of depicting oppressed or underprivileged characters.

ABS-CBN writer Jerry B. Grácio also commented on this transition, with many netizens concurring.

Susan Africa initially gained fame for her role as “Susan” in the 1990s soap opera ‘Mara Clara.’ Since then, she has frequently portrayed roles such as mothers, housemaids, or impoverished aunts. However, in 1999, she delivered a noteworthy performance as an affluent character in ‘Gimik: The Reunion,’ where she played the mother of Bojo Molina’s character.
