The most recent data from Nielsen Philippines, seemingly suggest viewers are getting weary of the drama that involves the three noontime shows.
Is noontime viewership on a decline once again? After the excitement and clamor brought about by the beginning of the three-way bout among Eat Bulaga, EAT, and It’s Showtime, it seems following has significantly subsided for noontime shows. That is, if we were to analyze the trend for each of the three leading noontime shows.
It can be noted that on July 1, the day all the three noontime shows began going head-to-head with each other, TVJ’s EAT ruled the rating charts with an astounding 8.4 people rating. It’s Showtime, which debuted on GMA Network’s GTV Channel on the same day, came in second with 4.0 people rating, while TAPE Inc’s revamped Eat Bulaga, managed to post a meager 2.6 people rating.
Now, two months later, EAT succeeds at keeping its place on the top, but its shrunk advantage over its rivals is noticeably glaring. On Monday, September 11, EAT logged its lowest people rating yet since debut: a weak 3.9. Eat Bulaga and It’s Showtime, which have taken turns in becoming EAT‘s runner up, multiple times, posted 3.3 and 3.1, respectively.
If we were to assume behind EAT‘s drastic rating fall last Monday, one can readily note the fact that Monday episodes are usually taped. It can also be noted, however, that these taped episodes are fresh and were not previously seen by the show’s loyal viewers. More remarkably so, is that this drop in viewership eclipses the controversies surrounding the three noontime shows, as each faces scrutiny from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.
Given the plunge in TV ratings of the three noontime shows, is it really safe to say that noontime viewing has once again fell to a slumber? Probably not. Probably, it’s just one of those few occasions when the still one of the most active viewing blocks on local television has gone unusually idle. Hopefully, the interest for these three noontime shows picks up in the coming days.
