The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has taken action against the popular noontime show ‘It’s Showtime’ by imposing a 12-day suspension.
This decision comes in the wake of multiple complaints lodged by viewers regarding the program’s episode aired on July 25. The controversy centers around the ‘Isip Bata’ segment, where the show’s hosts allegedly engaged in inappropriate behavior.
The MTRCB’s Hearing and Adjudication Committee conducted a thorough review of the case, mandating that respondents submit their position papers and adhering to a stringent procedural process before issuing the suspension.
According to the MTRCB’s official statement, respondents have the option to file a motion for reconsideration within 15 days from the date of receiving the decision.
Notably, this is not the first instance of disciplinary action taken against ‘It’s Showtime’ by the MTRCB. Earlier this year, the program received two warnings from the board for episodes aired on January 24 and June 3, in which alleged inappropriate language and content were addressed.
It’s also worth recalling that in 2010, ‘It’s Showtime’ faced a preventive suspension lasting 20 days imposed by the MTRCB.
The recent controversy revolves around the ‘Isip Bata’ segment of the July 25 episode, during which hosts Vice Ganda and Ion Perez, who had a non-legal wedding ceremony in Las Vegas last year, were featured in a cake-eating scene.
Viewer complaints alleged that the segment depicted indecent acts, prompting the MTRCB’s intervention and subsequent suspension.
