On August 9, actors JC Santos and Bela Padilla reacted to people insisting they were a good fit for each other in real life.
At the media conference for ‘Wish You Were The One,’ which LionhearTV covered, Santos explained that they would lose the ‘magic’ of their pairing if they ever become a real couple.
“Lagi akong masaya na everytime na we have each other onset, parang lagi akong– ayaw kong mawala ‘yun excitement na ‘yun eh na we get to understand a script while understanding each other.
“So ang aming working relationship is tried and tested na parang kapag sumagad doon sa idea ng maging real life ano siya, mawawala na ‘yung magic na pwede pa naming ibigay sa audience.”
He also maintained that he and Padilla are good friends and are in ‘artist mode’ whenever they work together.
“I think nandoon kami sa– nasa artist talaga, nasa artist mode kami everytime we’re with each other. Kahit wala kami sa camera, we still talk about a lot of artsy things.
“So we’re really good friends na– lalo na si Bela, ang lawak-lawak kakwentuhan, ang lawak-lawak niyang kausap. So ayaw kong, hindi namin hinahayaan mawala ‘yung in-invest namin sa aming dalawa.”
Padilla added that she and Santos were always in their respective relationships when they worked together.
“I think we never got to a point na — parang lagi kasi kaming, in a way, also, every time we’re working on a project, either I’m in a relationship with someone, or JC is in a relationship with someone, especially now, JC’s married.
“Ninang ako ni River, we respect each other and our partners so much na parang every time– before JC got married, we never had a point na we were both single, so we wouldn’t even think about it. Parang, it was never a question.”
She also echoed Santos’ sentiments about valuing their working relationship.
“And also at the same time, ‘yun nga sayang ‘yung working relationship, parang ang dami kong nakikitang love team– I mean kami parang hindi naman kami classic love team.
“Never kaming dinesign na love team eh, but like ang dami kong nakikitang great pairings on screen na hindi na nagtratrabaho ngayon dahil break sila sa totoong buhay. So parang sayang kung mangyayari sa amin.”
She also surmised that she and Santos became an on-screen pairing at an age where they’ve already matured as people.
“And parang we went past that stage already. So ‘yun. Tsaka parang noong nagkatrabaho kami, I was 26, JC was 27, parang hindi na kami 18 years old na alam mo ‘yun.
“Parang feeling ko maraming love team na end up being dating kasi parehas silang sobrang bata, kailangan nila kasangga, na kasama nila araw-araw in life din and at work. We we’re already mature enough to stand alone as people. So we didn’t need that kind of relationship to be able to work with each other.”
Santos and Padilla have six projects together ‘100 Daang Tula Para Kay Stella’ (2017), ‘The Day After Valentine’s’ (2018), ‘On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets’ (2020), and Padilla’s film ‘366’ (2022). They also worked on ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7’ (2019) but not as an on-screen pairing.
‘Wish You Were The One’ stars Padilla and Santos. The cast also features Romnick Sarmenta, Kean Cipriano, Franki Russell, Kaladkaren, Andrea Babierra, Andrew Muhlach, Cheska Ortega, Itan Magnaye, Peach Caparas, Charizz Po, and Charles Delgado.
Under the direction of Derick Cabrido, the Viva Films movie opens in cinemas on August 23.
