The award-winning seasoned actress marks her return to ABS-CBN via the Coco Martin-led series.
Jaclyn Jose spoke very fondly of the Primetime King, Coco Martin, during one of her interviews on TV Patrol. Appearing on an ABS-CBN series for the first time in 10 years, the 59-year old actress recalled the first time she worked with Martin, and how she got convinced to join his latest top rating series, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
“Si Coco, parang anak ko na ‘yan; ang una niyang pelikula, kasama ako. Masahista, noong araw, matagal na, at mula noon hindi naman kami nag-lose contact. In short, nagkakausap pa rin…” she told ABS-CBN News. The award-winning actress was referring to the Brillante Menddoza-helmed indie film, Masahista, which gave Martin a Young Critics Circle Best Actor award.
Jose and Martin subsequently worked in numerous projects including TV shows and movies. In 2009, Jose played a major supporting character in Martin’s first lead teleserye, Nagsimula Sa Puso, where he starred opposite Maja Salvador. The two also co-starred primetime series, Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo, in 2010. Jose moved to GMA Network, after completing her last teleserye under ABS-CBN, Kahit Puso’y Masugatan, in 2013.
Explaining her long hiatus from appearing in an ABS-CBN TV series, Jose noted her contractual obligations with GMA Network. Her last Kapuso series is notably the Kapuso sports drama, Bolera, in 2022.
“Nagkataon lang na nasa ibang istasyon tayo at that time, hindi tayo nakapasok sa ‘Probinsyano’,” she said, referring to Coco Martin’s previous series, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. Jose admitted that it was her dream to join the seven year old series, or any drama Coco Martin would star in.
“Ang pakiramdam ng artista, ako ha, kapag hindi ako nakapasok sa soap ni Coco, halimbawa itong Probinsyano na natapos, hindi kumpleto ang pagiging artista ko. May ganoong feeling. Hindi ko alam ang pakiramdam ng kapwa ko artista, pero ako, ganoon ang pakiramdam ko,” she shared.
In FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, Jose portrays the role of Corrections Chief Supt. Dolores Espinas, a powerful figure inside the prison, who seems poised to play a very important role in Tanggol’s life. Tanggol is the role played by Martin in the series.
