Noontime show ‘It’s Showtime’ is facing an uncertain future after the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) rejected motions for reconsideration filed by both GMA Network and ABS-CBN regarding the show’s 12-day suspension.
During ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,’ TV host Boy Abunda reported on the MTRCB’s decision regarding the program.
According to Boy, the MTRCB made its announcement during a press conference held on Thursday, September 28.
However, it’s important to note that the MTRCB’s decision is not yet final. GMA Network and ABS-CBN have the option to appeal to the Office of the President within 15 days from September 28.
The MTRCB clarified that if the President’s office does not rule in their favor, both networks can further appeal the decision to the Court of Appeals and even the Supreme Court.
This means that ‘It’s Showtime’ can continue to air on GTV and other channels while the complaints are still under consideration.
In a report by Boy, MTRCB Chairperson Lala Sotto alleged, “Wala ‘din umanong effort ang It’s Showtime at mga host nito to have a dialogue, to coordinate, or to cooperate with the MTRCB.”
However, MTRCB and Judication Chair Atty. Paulino Cases clarified that representatives from ‘It’s Showtime’ did attend the hearing after receiving a notice to appear.
The complaints against ‘It’s Showtime’ stemmed from alleged indecent acts by its hosts Vice Ganda and Ion Perez during one of the program’s segments. These actions were considered inappropriate for young viewers and were deemed contrary to Section 3 (c) of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and its associated rules and regulations.
Additionally, on Thursday, September 28, GMA Network Senior Vice President for Programming, Talent Management, Worldwide, and Support Group Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, Sparkle GMA Artist Center Vice President Joy Marcelo, and Sparkle Senior Talent Manager Tracy Garcia visited the set of ‘It’s Showtime.’
