Throughout their 3-month bout, two series took turns in claiming supremacy over the 8:00 pm slot.
No two primetime shows—at least, since the onset of the pandemic—have ever showcased how rivalry could be as tough and exciting as GMA Network’s Voltes V Legacy and FPJ’s Batang Quiapo did. The two flagship dramas have taken turns in dominating the slot, as well as being the number one entertainment TV program in the country, since the debut of the Kapuso megaserye on May 8. Now, with Voltes V Legacy nearing to its epic conclusion, the race to primetime supremacy has gone even tighter.
Ratings-wise, the Kapamilya action-drama, managed to deliver a solid win versus its Kapuso counterpart. Its 46 wins in the ratings game, out of the 84 nights it went head-to-head with Voltes V Legacy, is a proof of its incredible following among teleserye lovers. Since May 8, the date the Kapuso action-adventure series debuted on GMA Telebabad, the Coco Martin-starrer, has occupied the overall no.1, becoming the top rating TV show in the country, 16 times. Voltes V Legacy, on the other hand, managed to occupy the spot, just once.
In terms of peak rating, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, also outdoes its rival show, pulling off a very impressive 14.9 people rating, three times already. Voltes V Legacy, meanwhile, is yet to erase its own record of 14.5, which it achieved during its pilot episode. The Kapuso series notably won its time slot, 37 times.
FPJ’s Batang Quiapo maintains a slightly better average, 12.9 versus Voltes V Legacy‘s 12.3. The two shows tied once in terms of people rating, both registering a 12.8 on May 23.
Online concurrent viewership-wise, the Coco Martin-topbilled series remains the runaway victor, drawing at least 300,000 nightly, on YouTube alone. That’s miles ahead its closest rival, whose concurrent viewership only averages 30,000 every night.
With Voltes V Legacy down to its last five episodes, and FPJ’s Batang Quiapo entering its newest chapter, the two giant primetime shows seem poised to engage in a tougher competition. Will the Voltes robot put a stop on FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’s soaring in the ratings game, or will Tanggol further solidify Coco Martin’s reputation as the legitimate and only Primetime King?
