Bituin Escalante speaks up about ‘sapawan’ during performances

On August 31, Stellar Diva Bituin Escalante voiced her opinion about ‘sapawan’ or overshadowing her fellow artist during a performance.

At a media gathering, which LionhearTV covered, Escalante remarked that she would step down and find the ‘low tones’ instead of belting out a tune to compete with her co-artists.

So I will go down.”

Aside from her views about ‘sapawan,’ she detailed how she always feels nervous when performing on stage.

But stage you really have to get all of your hangin out.”

Escalante also acknowledged that she has moments where her voice cracks during performances, which often leads to her losing her voice.

“Kapag singer, ikaw ang una mong critic. So maski ‘yung alam mong kaunti lang, ‘yung ganon, sasabihin nila ang ganda ng vocal fry mo, hindi day, pumiyok ‘yun. And it happens, I did Dream Girls, parang sa TV hindi pa ata, I did Dream Girls, wala akong choice, and I still had to do the play. And ‘yun good luck na talaga.”

Her experience resulted in her realization about valuing her health and her voice.

So lesson, kasi dati gabi-gabi theater ‘yan di ba? Kakain kayo sa labas after, wine down pa kayo, tapos ‘yun puyat. Miski hindi ka uminom, di ba ‘yung one or two beers after the show, miski one or two beers, the fact na hindi ka natulog, wala ka ng boses. So since then sleep na ang lola mo.”

Recently, Escalante joined the roster of Hurados on the noontime show’s singing competition ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ on July 6.

Aside from her Hurado stint in TNT, she was also part of the Cinemalaya 2023 film ‘Duyan Ng Magiting,’ which won the Best Ensemble Performance Award.

She also plans to release a Christmas song during the Ber-Months of 2023.
