Barbie Forteza, the popular actress, recently emphasized the distinction between reel and real life, shutting down any speculation about her on-screen pairing with David Licauco becoming a reality.
Her statement came during the press conference for their forthcoming primetime series, ‘Maging Sino Ka Man,’ set to premiere on September 11 on GMA Network. The event was held on August 31 at Luxent Hotel in Quezon City.
In the press conference, Barbie and David were questioned about the constraints of their love team, its impact on their personal lives, and the desire of some fans for their on-screen chemistry to evolve into a genuine relationship.
Barbie, extending gratitude to their dedicated supporters, known as ‘BarDa’ (a portmanteau of Barbie and David), acknowledged their presence during the press event. She expressed her heartfelt thanks for the unwavering support they’ve received.
Barbie revealed that their love team originated from David’s initiative to actively engage with fans on Twitter. His efforts greatly contributed to the success of their pairing, especially during the airing of ‘Maria Clara at Ibarra,’ the show that gave birth to the BarDa love team. This support continued even after their series concluded in February.
The actress credited David for the success of BarDa, particularly noting his initiation of the ‘Twitterserye’ during ‘Maria Clara at Ibarra.’ She highlighted his dedication and hard work in making their partnership thrive, emphasizing the mutual benefits and friendship they have gained from working together.
Barbie also candidly addressed the challenges of the showbiz industry, describing it as a ‘cruel’ world and not as easy as it may appear. She expressed her gratitude for having found a true friend in David, emphasizing how they have each other’s backs.
Regarding their fans, Barbie stressed the importance of setting personal boundaries, echoing the sentiments of theater icon Lea Salonga, who emphasized the need to respect the personal space of artists. Barbie firmly stated that their personal lives outside of their partnership, beyond the realm of their love team, are strictly off-limits. She emphasized that family and loved ones are not included in their work and should be kept separate.
David Licauco, Barbie’s on-screen partner, shared similar sentiments during the press conference. He stated that the transition from reel to real life had never crossed his mind, emphasizing his deep respect for Barbie’s real-life boyfriend, actor Jak Roberto. David consistently highlighted the importance of respecting their private lives throughout recent interviews.
