On September 7, new ‘InnerVoices’ vocalist Angelo Miguel recounted how he portrayed Jesus Christ in the localized version of the theater production ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’
At an intimate media event in the TakeOver lounge in Quezon City, which LionhearTV covered, Miguel acknowledged how people would often point out his resemblance to the imagery of Jesus Christ, noting how it led to him taking on the role in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’
“Yeah, I did Jesus Christ Superstar. I did a musical, pero Tagalog version siya ng Jesus Christ Superstar noong 2019.”
He also voiced his opinion about performers taking on religious figures.
“Ayaw ko na lang mag-talk. Hindi naman, kasi maayos naman ‘yung pag-pe-perform ko ng ganon. Theater ‘yun eh.”
Miguel also discussed his other artistic interests outside of being a musician.
“Actually ang music, palagi ‘yang may kakambal na isa pa. So like Photography, Cinematography, or whatever, painting di ba? Ang artist palaging ganon eh, parang ADHD, laging may kakambal na sakit di ba? So ‘yun for me, since I’m doing this since High School, ‘yung music ang theater at the same time, so I’m doing it over and over again. Parang nasanay na ako.”
When asked if he would be open in taking on acting roles, Miguel remarked, “Kung mayroon artista, ganyan, so, magaling naman ako umarte, marunong naman ako. Depende sa role.”
He also shared his experience auditioning for a ‘steamy’ role in an indie film.
“Tapos may isang film doon na kinuha na ako, pinag-screening na ako, binigay na ‘yung script, na-script reading, tapos it turns out, sabi ko parang bakit may–parang iba.
“I was like the scene was may gagawa ng paso na which is babae, tapos I would go there, pupuntahan ko siya tapos iuntog ko siya sa pader. Tapos sabi ko, ‘teka nga, sabi ko parang iba ata ‘to ah.’ Sabi nila, ‘Ah ganyan po talaga ‘yan.’ Sabi ko, ‘Ah ganon ba?’ Ayaw ko na lang. Parang Fifty Shades of Grey. Parang hindi ko pa kaya ‘yung ganon.”
