In a recent development, Yeng Constantino, a prominent figure in the Philippine music industry, has revealed her decision to part ways with Star Music, the label that has been her home for the past 17 years.
During an intimate press conference held at Tala Bar in Quezon City on August 18, Yeng shared insights into her emotional journey and the factors that led to her departure.
Yeng Constantino, known for her chart-topping hits such as ‘Ikaw,’ ‘Salamat,’ and ‘Cool Off,’ disclosed that her farewell meeting with her former record label was accompanied by tears. While expressing deep gratitude for the opportunities and support she received from Star Music, Yeng acknowledged the significance of her tenure with the label.
“Iniyakan ko rin yun during our meeting, umiyak ako. Grabe yung sorry ko kayna sir Roxy, sinabi ko sa kanila na kailangan ko muna maging independent to discover myself again,” Yeng explained.
Importantly, Yeng stressed that there is no animosity or ill will between her and Star Music. She underscored her desire to maintain a positive relationship with the label and to keep the possibility of future collaborations open.
On March 9, Yeng Constantino embarked on a new chapter in her career by officially joining Republic Records, a record label under the Universal Music Group (UMG). This move signifies a significant shift in her musical journey.
In addition to her career transition, Yeng Constantino celebrated a significant milestone by gaining ownership of her music catalog from her former label. This strategic move empowers her to secure passive income for her retirement in the future.
“17 years na ako sa industry and hindi naman tayo bumabata. I think I’ve been like this simula pa naman nung umpisa. I always think about the future. Itong trabaho namin it’s not forever and what do I have to do in the present para masecure ko ang akin retirement pag tanda,” Yeng explained.
With ownership of her songs, Yeng Constantino now has newfound creative freedom. She envisions releasing fresh versions of her music and even revisiting the lyrics of her past songs. Notably, her latest EP, ‘Reimagined,’ already features re-recordings of her previous hits.
“The good thing about owning my songs na ngayon, pwede kong irewrite yung lyrics kasi syempre nagrgrow din ako bilang songwriter. May mga songs dun na natatawa ako. I think I’m evolving as a songwriter as well,” Yeng shared.
As Yeng Constantino embarks on this exciting phase of her career, she has expressed a desire to collaborate with fellow artist Kz Tandingan. The two accomplished singers previously toured together in the United States, fostering mutual admiration for each other’s extraordinary talents.
