What if the person you’ve just met has already been a significant part of your life because you happened to be in the same place at the same time unexpectedly? Can this be the perfect recipe for a love story?
Viva Films brings back the heartwarming tandem of JC Santos and Bela Padilla to the big screen with the romantic comedy film ‘Wish You Were The One,’ showing in cinemas starting August 23.
We laughed, cried, and fell in love with their 2017 film ‘100 Tula Para Kay Stella,’ and Viva Films aims to recreate the same magic that JC and Bela conjured six years ago. The film is directed by Derick Cabrido, with the story written by Enrico Santos.
A truly surreal story of serendipity.
Astrud (Padilla) and Ellis (Santos) have a reason to attend the same wedding: to win back their exes. They concoct a story that would convincingly portray them as a couple in front of their former partners and friends. However, as they weave this tale together, something surprising happens – they realize they were both present in the same place at the same time when the events they fabricated actually took place.
This part of the film presents an extremely unexpected and fortunate event, a situation so extraordinary and dreamlike that it almost feels unreal. Yet, we’ve all heard stories from friends and family members who have experienced such situations – being in the same event or place before they officially met their significant others. Serendipity, right?
Exploring the ‘What Ifs’ and poignant lines.
Dream sequences have a universal allure; they offer an enchanting escape for characters. In ‘Wish You Were The One,’ the dream sequences are filled with ‘what ifs,’ triggering instant “kilig” among moviegoers. However, for others, they evoke a pang of sadness, as we all resonate with regrets and wishful thinking. This poignant touch makes the movie emotionally impactful.
Amidst the hurtful or “hugot” lines, the film is brimming with them, all masterfully delivered by JC and Bela. They skillfully weave themes of destiny and the universe aligning for a love that blooms swiftly due to the characters’ circumstances and goals. As they say, brokenness makes one more vulnerable.
JC and Bela’s chemistry is truly remarkable.
From “100 Tula Para Kay Stella” to “Wish You Were The One,” JC and Bela maintain their spark as an unexpected duo. They infuse their lines with tension, effectively portraying their characters’ emotions. In this movie, Astrud and Ellis may be in love, but they must fulfill their individual goals. JC and Bela’s portrayal of these characters conveys that they’ve been scarred by life’s battles, poised for a fight, yet they choose to heal their wounded hearts before embracing love anew.
The team adeptly plays with moviegoers’ emotions by combining wishful thinking, depicted as ‘what ifs,’ with serendipity. This fusion creates a relatable experience for everyone.
