Now down to its last few weeks, the much-hyped ‘megaserye’ of the Kapuso Network, seems to have been losing steam against its fiercest competition, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
Voltes V Legacy lost its place among the Top 5 TV programs in the country, for the first time, since debuting on GMA Telebabad in May. According to the August 24 NUTAM data from Nielsen Philippines, the Kapuso live action TV adaptation of the Japanese mecha series of the same name, further lagged behind FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, which has been solidifying its position, not only as the number one entertainment program, but more strikingly, as the overall number one TV show in the country.
Latest data reveal, Voltes V Legacy is 2.5 rating points behind FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, 11.5 to 14.0. This is also notably the second lowest people rating the show achieved, just 0.2 shy of duplicating the current record low of 11.3, recorded by its June 20 episode.
GMA Network’s flagship primetime newscast, 24 Oras, which traditionally occupies the top spot, is relegated to the second place, with 13.9. Strong Afternoon Prime performers, Abot Kamay Na Pangarap and Magandang Dilag, occupy the third and fourth spots, respectively.
Kapuso primetime mystery-drama, Royal Blood, which has already entered the Top 5, in the past, made a successful return, with 11.6.
Given that Voltes V Legacy, deemed to be the costliest TV production yet by GMA Network, is already set to bid adieu on air, it seems unfortunate that the show seems to have failed to meet its commercial expectations.
Let’s see if the remaining episodes have something to push the series back to the Top 5, or even ahead of its rival show.
