The Courtyard by Nike opens in Manila

The Courtyard, a new basketball court by Nike, opens in the heart of Bonifacio Global City (BGC) that will ignite the deep passion Filipinos have for basketball, provide a safe space for a community of players, while upholding Nike’s commitment to preserving the future of the planet.

The 2,182 square meter Courtyard at 25th Street and 7th Avenue in BGC will come alive with the dribbling and swooshing of basketballs in three courts: two are FIBA-standard full courts and one is a half-court with a free-throw line for practice-shooting.

Deepening our commitment to help protect the planet and with it, the future of sport, the two full-size courts’ surfaces are made with NIKE GRIND rubber from the outsoles of about 30,000 pairs of recycled shoes.

Set to give local hoopers their first experience playing ball on a sustainable sports ground, The Courtyard now joins Nike’s international circuit of courts that serve as re-energized spaces for communities to enjoy sport.

Hoop-inspired artist Kiefsix’s bright colors and bold patterns reflecting local aesthetics, give The Courtyard its youthful look while making it authentic to Manila’s baller community. The Courtyard also has a locker facility, male and female restrooms and shower rooms. The rooftop of the locker room can double up as an observation deck for friends to watch the action while offering its 70 square meters of space for events and workshops.

“The hope is that every baller who steps onto the court will feel a sense of identity, and they will feel proud to be a Filipino baller,” said Kiefsix.

Coach Xavier Nunag, University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Commissioner and mentor to the next generation of ballers, added: “Having this court in the heart of Metro Manila is huge. It’s different when you play alone in your Barangay. Playing here gives you the primetime feeling, like you’re a part of Filipino basketball culture.”

To help grow the community of basketball and bring more women and girls into sport, The Courtyard will host weekly pickup runs, female-only games and regular basketball camps for ballers of all levels, including Girls Got Game Philippines and women’s community groups. Led by Nike athletes and coaches, these camps will deepen the Filipinos’ love for their favorite sport that galvanizes the community.

Designed to be an inclusive space, ballers of all levels are welcome to play at The Courtyard and able to sign up for free using the Nike app.
