Kumu, the homegrown social entertainment app of the Philippines, is embracing its fifth year of unleashing the talent, passion, and creativity of Filipinos through a grand celebration known as kumuFIVE. With its extensive user base both locally and internationally, including Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), the upcoming months promise an abundance of fresh and ambitious collaborations. Expect an array of innovative shows and programs that can serve as pathways to media and entertainment career success.
A remarkable highlight of kumuFIVE is an event of extraordinary star power. This event, a first for the Kumunity, will bring a touch of elegance and extravagance to the Kumuverse. The Diamond Gala will gather Kumunity members under one roof, stepping away from screens and into real life. The gala will feature a lavish blue carpet where members can interact with fellow streamers and supporters, taking place on August 26 at Shangri-La Fort.
According to Roland Ros, CEO & Co-Founder of Kumu, “The Diamond Gala embodies our dedication to constructing a secure platform that places the voice of the Filipino people at the forefront, both at home and across the globe. It’s our way of commemorating Kumu’s journey and expressing gratitude for years of platform and initiative support.”
Innovative Ventures Over time, Kumu has collaborated with major players in the Philippine media and entertainment industry, resulting in numerous groundbreaking projects. Esteemed partners include “Pinoy Big Brother,” “Eat Bulaga!,” The House of Collab, Summit Media, GKNB, Star Magic, and VIVA. These partnerships have led to exceptional shows, cultivating a community that embraces diverse talents and positively impacting lives, particularly during the pandemic.
Meanwhile, for those rising and aspiring content creators, Kumu shared that they have a team that will support and guide creators in understanding their niche, market, and content so that they can strategize on how they can deliver good shows on Kumu.
In its fifth year, Kumu remains devoted to fostering success among Filipino creators and communities, both within and beyond the platform. This commitment has given rise to performance contests celebrating unsung heroes, like “Healthcareoke” for healthcare workers – also supporting local NGO Shining Light Foundation – and “Dance Battleship” for Filipino seafarers, a substantial group within the global maritime industry.
For aspiring female performers and those identifying as women, “Looking for Jowa: Idol Survival Show” offers an inclusive quest for the next iconic girl group. Game shows are also making a triumphant return with “Panalo Hour,” showcasing various games each day. Streamers who are reality game show enthusiasts have a chance to partake in the “Diamond Hunt,” engaging in mental and physical challenges to win Kumu campaigns.
The introduction of “Kumugotchi” rooms adds excitement to the platform. Here, viewers use virtual gifts (diamonds) to control streamers’ actions. In its five years, Kumu has nurtured a space for streamers to share talents and time, while initiatives like “Euniverse Has It” give back to streamers and supporters, and “Karlito Volley Kamp” taps into the Kumunity’s athletic side with top volleyball superstars leading the way.
Nurturing Local Talent Beyond content creation, Kumu focuses on relevant social issues and local talent development. It has been pivotal in supporting local drag queens and is a major sponsor of “Drag Race Philippines Season 1 and 2.” Kumu’s campaigns continually promote a safe environment regardless of gender or age, exemplified by its recent project “Take Back Our Internet,” raising awareness about cybersex trafficking.
Kumu extends its impact to employment solutions for OFWs through a partnership with IKON. Moreover, a new partnership with ABS-CBN Global ensures Kumu’s content and shows reach a broader international audience.
As Kumu marks its fifth anniversary, it reflects on a journey characterized by creation, collaboration, and meaningful connections. The platform’s future promises to continue these facets, only growing stronger in the years ahead.
