Nessa Valdellon, the new senior vice president of GMA Pictures and first vice president of public affairs at GMA Network, recently shared insights into their decision to kickstart their film production journey with “The Cheating Game.”
Speaking at a media conference, Nessa expressed that producing films nowadays is daunting due to local movies not performing well this year. She pointed to successful foreign movies like “Insidious” that gained instant popularity.
Nessa emphasized that their goal was to make movies special and mysterious. Their marketing strategy deliberately keeps the movie’s details under wraps. She highlighted that the trailer hints at darkness but doesn’t give away the surprise, creating an air of intrigue. Nessa believes in giving audiences a chance to be surprised while watching on the big screen.
While acknowledging streaming’s importance in their business plan, Nessa stressed they are putting theaters first.
Exciting Plans for GMA Public Affairs Films
Nessa teased what’s in store for GMA Public Affairs films, mentioning horror, sci-fi, and family drama genres. They want to bring fresh storytelling to the forefront.
Direk Rod’s Challenge in Directing Real-life Couple Julie and Rayver
Director Rod Marmol, known for hits like “Cuddle Weather” and “Quaranthings,” spoke about directing intimate scenes involving real-life couple Julie and Rayver. He acknowledged the pressure but praised their chemistry and professionalism. Despite their real-life relationship, the duo brought authenticity to their on-screen characters.
The Cheating Game’s Unique Narrative

The film aims to reflect on the impact of privilege on coping with failed relationships. Director Rod hopes it prompts reflection on different coping mechanisms, considering various ways people manage heartbreak.
