The seasoned and award-winning singer and musician, admits that even though he is known as the ‘Pure Energy’, there are also ‘low’ moments.
Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano, continues to amaze and give inspiration to, young talents, especially in the music business, even after dominating the industry for four decades. Celebrating his 40th anniversary through a series of concerts at the Music Museum this August, Valenciano remains as oozing with energy as ever, packed with unrivaled zest for every audience in his every show.
Like any performer, however, the energy that Valenciano always relies to, to deliver a solid performance, sometimes stops getting ‘pure’. It gets low, that is. The seasoned performer is known to have been battling with Type I diabetes since he was 14 years old, hence his current condition.
So what happens when his blood sugar level drops, just when he needs energy the most? He had the opportunity to share his secret, during the first night of his concert series, last night, August 4..
“ …my sugar is low right now. Can I call 911?— nope, we don’t have to. I’m joking! I am fine, ” he told the audience, who were rather amazed at how he managed to lighten up the mood of the audience, with his humor, despite his condition.
“It’s just a little low. I just need to take something right here, and besides, I can talk a little bit about this next song, ” he added as picked up a filled bottle on the left side of stage.

He was gracious enough to ask permission to keep talking, while he waited for his sugar level to normalize.
“Can I talk lang a bit? I didn’t mean to talk too much but I just need to bring my sugar up, ” he pleaded, the audience cheerfully agreeing.
What drink does he usually take? “It is pineapple juice, ” he said, commending one of the member of the audience who guessed it right.
“A lot of people say it is not good for the throat, but it’s the one that helps me eh. It brings my sugar up real quick!” he shared before rising to his feet again, and signaled at the band to commence.
Gary Valenciano’s anniversary concert series continues at the Music Museum on August 12, 19, and 26
