On August 3, ‘Third World Romance’ cast members Esnyr Ranollo, Iya Mina, NAIA Black, Xilhoute, and Lady Morgana, voiced their opinions on whether money is an issue when starting a relationship.
At the media event for ‘Third World Romance,’ which LionhearTV covered, the Tiktok content creator Esnyr Ranollo said money is not a big deal for him when starting a romantic relationship.
“Pero, siguro hindi naman po siya big deal, as long as you have a person na may pangarap po sa buhay. Parang alam mong hardworking, na kahit nagstart kayong dalawa sa lowest, but since alam mong may passion kayo at hardworking kayo sa isa’t isa, parang you’ll strive hard na sabay kayong umangat.”
Actress Iya Mina stated that LGBTQIA+ and heteronormative relationships encounter financial issues, citing the importance of striving for their goals in life as partners.
“Hindi lang naman sa LGBTQIA+, kahit sa babae at lalaki nangyayari ‘yan. Ako okay lang kahit wala siyang pera, ako okay lang, kasi nga ‘yun nga tama ‘yung sinabi ni Esnyr, kung nag-strive siya sa buhay, may gustong marating, tulungan tayo, kasi ‘yun ang pangarap ninyong dalawa. Ang importante talaga is ‘yung love talaga.”
Drag Den Drag Supreme NAIA Black noted the value of both partners having ‘aligned’ goals in their relationship.
“Importante talaga sa akin ‘yung aligned kayo. Aligned kayo sa ambition ninyo, aligned kayo sa goals ninyo. So money will definitely become a factor, especially with you building a life together with a family or whatnot. So, importante talaga ‘yung alignment lang na same kayo goals.”
Drag Race Philippines Season 1 finalist Xilhouete noted that money issues between couples are case-to-case-basis.
“Hindi po talaga isyu ‘yung pera. Ano ‘yan, case to case basis po ‘yan. Siyempre when you’re together, are you going to stay together, are you going to live in one house. Ganyan, siyempre kung pamilya na ‘yung pag-uusapan, money will definitely play a big role, pero kung pag-ibig lang naman, hindi nauuna ‘yung pera. Kasi, ‘yung money extension lang siya of your affection to someone.”
However, Xilhoute clarified that no person could impose their views about money issues in a relationship to other couples.
“Pero kung ‘yung pera ang magpe-play sa puso, kung paano titignan ‘yung tao, doon mag-aano. So you can never dictate somebody outloud and open na wag kang magjowa kung wala kang pera. To me, mali ‘yun kasi sinasabi mo doon sa tao kung ano ‘yung dapat niyang gawin at hindi niya dapat gawin. Kasi subjective ‘yun.”
Lady Morgana noted that it’s a matter of ‘give and take’ when discussing finances in a relationship.
“Ako naman, same din, hindi naman issue ‘yung pera. As long as nagmahal ka ng lubos, tapos give and take lang ang relationship, ‘yun ang ano.”
As for their upcoming film, ‘Third World Romance’ stars Carlo Aquino and Charlie Dizon.
The cast also features Esnyr, Xilhouete, NAIA Black, Iya Mina, and Lady Morgana.
Under the direction of Dwein Ruedas Baltazar, ‘Third World Romance’ premieres on August 12 as the capping film of Cinemalaya 2023. After that, they have a premiere night on August 15 and open in cinemas nationwide on August 16.
