In the world of showbiz, it’s not uncommon for fans to become deeply invested in the lives of their favorite celebrities, especially when it comes to their onscreen pairings.
Such is the case with the beloved love team “BarJak,” composed of talented actors Barbie Forteza and Jak Roberto. However, recently, there have been whispers among fans expressing their desire to see Barbie and Jak end their real-life relationship to pursue different paths.
In response to this speculation, fellow actor and model David Licauco, who has been paired with Barbie in various projects, shared his thoughts on the matter.
During media interview on August 3 at the OPPO Reno 10 Series launch at The Manila Hotel uploaded by OrangeMagTV on Reels, David Licauco addressed the sentiments of fans who appear to be advocating for the breakup of “BarJak.” The actor emphasized the importance of respecting each individual’s personal life, particularly in the world of showbiz, where the lines between real and reel often blur.
David was launched as the brand’s newest ambassador alongside Bea Alonzo and Nadine Lustre and others called The Reno League.

“I think we all have to respect yung personal lives namin. Siyempre mahal niya si Jak Roberto, meron silang relationship before our loveteam, so we have to respect that,” David stated.
His words serve as a reminder that celebrities, like everyone else, are entitled to their privacy and personal relationships. While fans may be enamored by the onscreen chemistry between Barbie and David, it is essential to separate their reel-life portrayal from their real-life choices.
Despite understanding where fans are coming from in promoting the onscreen pairing, David also expressed empathy for their perspective. As a public figure, he acknowledged the significance of fans in an actor’s career and the impact they have on the success of projects.
“Pero siyempre maiintindihan mo rin naman ‘yung fans’ standpoint. Hindi natin sila masisisi kung pinu-push nila kami kasi iyon ang happiness nila and I think we also have to respect that,” he added.

However, David raised a concern regarding potential negative repercussions for Jak, who is dating Barbie in real life, because of their love team with Barbie.
His wish is that fans would not resort to bashing or criticizing Jak because of their onscreen pairing. Love teams are meant to entertain and bring joy to fans, but they should never become a source of negativity or hurt for the actors involved.
In recent times, social media has played a significant role in amplifying fan sentiments and opinions. One trending topic that emerged was the “anti-selos” (anti-jealousy) club, featuring videos of Jak not appearing jealous of Barbie’s onscreen interactions with David. These clips became viral, showcasing fans’ fascination with their favorite stars’ off-camera dynamics.
As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, love teams remain a staple for Filipino audiences. After gaining popularity as a love team in “Maria Clara at Ibarra,” fans will soon witness Barbie Forteza and David Licauco’s chemistry in the upcoming retelling of the 1991 film “Maging Sino Ka Man,” originally starring Sharon Cuneta and Robin Padilla. The project is set to air on GMA Network, and viewers are eagerly anticipating the duo’s performance.
