At the media conference for ‘Battle of the Judges’ held last July 9 in GMA Network Studio 6, Alden Richards talked about his movie ‘A Mother and Son’s Story’ with Megastar Sharon Cuneta as well as their onscreen mother-and-son relationship.
Richards revealed that this project with Cuneta was sudden and he initially did not know who would play the role of his mother in the film.
“Napakabilis po ng mga pangyayari, biglaan po parang nagpasa po samin ng script si Cineko then binasa po namin, inaral po namin yung laman and then maganda yung script. Pero hindi ko pa alam kung sino ba yung makakasama ko po, yung magpoportray ng mother role.”
He added that he had an idea on who could play the role, but it was confirmed before he had the chance to suggest it. Richards also revealed that he was excited for the filming when he learned that he would be working with Cuneta.
“Meron na po akong idea pero bago ko pa lng po masuggest yung idea ko, yun na po yung lumabas sa kanila na si Ms. Sharon po yung, ‘Si Ms. Sharon yung makakasama mo dito Alden,’ ‘kelan po shooting?'”
The actor reminisced how he said in a 2019 PEP Interview that Cuneta was on his bucket list of acting veterans he wanted to work with. He further remarked that manifestations work as evident in his dream-come-true project with the megastar.
“Kase 2019 po, way back 2019, may nag resurface po na video na during ‘The World between Us’ interview po yata I think with pep na yung bucket list ko na ‘sino sa mga veteran actors na gusto mong makasama pa’ so kasama po dun si Ms. Sharon. Yung manifesting lately talagang parang it’s really working eh.”
He further talked about his mother-and-son relationship with the actress.
“Sobra pong bilis ng mga pangyayari at kulang na lang po yata birth certificate para talaga magiging whole family na po kame ni Ms. Sharon.”
The actor also talked about how the Megastar wants him to call her.
“Pero gusto niya po tawag ko sa kanya ‘Mama’ kase pag tinawag ko po sya Ms. Sharon, sinasabi niya po ‘teacher mo ba ako?'”
On the recent controversial ‘E.A.T.’ guesting of Cuneta where she was flamed for teasing Richards with Maine Mendoza, the onscreen son took his stand to defend the actress and even consoled her in their private conversations.
“Yun po pinaliwanag ko po sa kanya na ‘ok lang yan ma’. Actually, sanay na po ako dyan kumbaga yung…para s’yang cup of tea na po naming mga public figure eh. It’s our cup of tea, yung bashers. Hindi lng naman po ako, anyone that’s seen publicly, hindi po mawawala yan. And of course, sabi ko ‘ma alam mo naman pareho naman tayo matagal na sa industriya, kung pwede wag mo na lang muna basahin kase nasa bakasyon po sya during that time. And that’s her first vacation na kasama po ang family after a long time so ‘yun na lang po kinomfort ko po s’ya sabi ko ‘relax ka na lang ma and enjoy mo yung vacation mo kase pagbalik, shooting na tayo ulit’.”
Richards also revealed how Cuneta enjoyed her vacation as she occasionally sent him photos of her vacation with her family.
“So with that po, she very much enjoyed her vacation and I’m so happy to see all the photos. Sinesend n’ya po sa’kin privately kase with the family.”
The two have also been posting their interactions on social media, earning warm reception from the netizens.
Cuneta posted a conversation with Richards where he sent a photo of him watching her guesting on E.A.T.
Cuneta also tweeted pictures of her with the actor. The caption reads, “Me and my Alden! OMG I LOVE HIM SOOOO MUCH!! (emojis) @aldenrichards02″.

Richards was also seen on the megastar’s vlog featuring the working days of their upcoming film.
‘A Mother and Son’s Story’ is directed by Nuel Naval and will also star Miles Ocampo and Tonton Gutierrez. The movie is an official entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.
