‘Sparks Camp,’ Black Sheep’s Queer Dating show hosted by Miss Trans Global 2020 Mela Habijan, broke ground in introducing the LGBTQIA+ dating scene to mainstream viewers.
As the first dating show that highlighted some of the dating experiences of Filipino LGBTQIA+ people, how did its first season fare in terms of online viewership?
For its first episode titled ‘Coming In,’ the ten participants arrived at the campsite with Aaron, Stanley, Karl, Justin, Gabe, Nat, Bong, Alex, Dan, and Nick, meeting one another and taking on the first challenge to determine the pairs who would get the chance to have a romantic date.
As of this writing, the episode has 522,000 thousand views on Black Sheep’s YouTube Channel.
The second episode titled ‘Unpacking Feelings,’ shows the winning pairs on their one-on-one dates while the losing campers knew their fellow participants more.
The episode’s highlight was when the campers shared their secrets with the group, and they gave their ‘sparks’ to the participant that piqued their interest. The second episode had 328,000 views on YouTube.
The third episode, ‘Pull Harder,’ had everyone revealing if they received ‘sparks’ from other campers. The campers then went on and competed in a Q&A style tug-of-war. The episode had 351,000 viewers on YouTube.
The fourth episode, ‘Bring The Heat,’ had the losing campers talking about their love languages while the winning pairs went on a spa date.
After that, the group discussed their sexual secrets with the rest of the campers, which impacted how the participants chose to give their ‘sparks.’ Episode 4 had 300,000 views on YouTube.
Episode 5 titled ‘Keep It Close,’ began with the campers revealing the number of ‘sparks’ they received after the secret-sharing session.
After that, the group had a drinking session while recounting their heartbreaking stories and personal journeys that led them to join ‘Sparks Camp.’ The episode has 321,000 views on Black Sheep’s YouTube channel.
Episode 6, ‘Opening Up,’ had the winning pairs on their fine-dining date. Later on, the campers got to know everyone on a deeper level during their Moment of Truth, with some sharing personal stories of mental health issues, trauma, and depression. The episode had 289,000 on YouTube.
For Episode 7, ‘Shoot Your Shot,’ the campers got treated to a pool party and night drinking with the tensions risings among the participants who may or may not want to stake their claim to their potential ‘spark.’ The episode had 301,000 views on YouTube.
For the finale, ‘Sparks Reveal,’ the campers had the chance to talk to their potential ‘sparks’ one last time.
As the group revealed the people they were interested in, the two pairs that got a mutual spark at the end were Nick-Karl and Alex-Justin.
The episode had 200,000 views in the first 24 hours, and as of this writing, it currently has 265,000 views on YouTube.
