On July 18, Francine Diaz appeared at the premiere night of ‘Mary Cherry Chua’ to support the horror film.
The premiere night for Roni S. Benaid’s True Philippine Ghost Stories-inspired film was youthful and star-studded. Aside from Diaz, Viva artists Francis Magundayao, Aubrey Caraan, Apple Dy, Jehramae Trangia, Ethan David, and Ashtine Olviga also graced the event at the SM North Edsa Cinema.
At a media conference held earlier, Benaid detailed how it took him five years to have ‘Mary Cherry Chua’ available in cinemas.
“Then it took me five years din po bago makagawa kasi na-busy rin po sa work. Kasi po, currently employed din po ako sa Viva, sa under creatives po, under Valerie Del Rosario.
“Then actually, na-approve po itong pitch ko na ‘to before pandemic pa. Pero nagkaroon lang ng writer’s block noong pandemic. Tapos nakapag-simula lang po talaga kami ng production 2022 po.”
The film’s protagonist Ashley Diaz, daughter of Joko Diaz, admitted that she felt terrified of the scenes in her first lead role.
“Nakakatakot ‘yung scenes, siguro sa pagbibida ng pelikula, more on excitement siya for me, pero natatakot rin ako kahit noong una pa lang, kasi siyempre horror movie siya. So in-expect ko na nakakatakot ‘yung scenes, so medyo may preparations, pero mas natatakot pa rin talaga ako sa scenes ng movie na ‘to kaysa sa fact na bibida ako.”
‘Mary Cherry Chua’ stars Ashley Diaz, Joko Diaz, Alma Moreno, Kokoy De Santos, Lyca Gairanod, Abby Bautista, and Krissha Viaje.
Written and directed by Benaid, the Viva horror film opened in cinemas nationwide last July 19.
