The hit-and-run incident that resulted in the tragic death of 28-year-old local singer Mark Ken Mariscal on Sunday midnight at Cabantian Road is currently under investigation by the Davao City Police Office.
Mariscal gained recognition after his participation in the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” competition on It’s Showtime four years ago.
According to Police Major Joenel Pederio, the station commander of Buhangin Police Station No. 5, Mariscal was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by Ruben Borgonia.
Initial findings indicate that at around 2:45 a.m., while traveling towards Barangay Indangan, Borgonia and Mariscal made a brief stop to use the restroom.
As Mariscal dismounted from the motorcycle, he lost his balance and fell onto the road.
Borgonia attempted to flag down a passing white vehicle for help, but unfortunately, the vehicle did not stop and ran over Mariscal.
Mariscal was immediately rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for urgent medical attention, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival by the attending physicians.
