TV host-comedian Joey de Leon didn’t hold back in response to TV Patrol news anchor Noli de Castro’s remark about the wedding of Maine Mendoza and Arjo Atayde.
Maine and Arjo’s wedding took place in Baguio City on July 28, 2023, amid the impact of Typhoon Egay in other parts of the country.
During TV Patrol’s closing spiels on the same day, Noli commented on the couple’s wedding, mentioning the ongoing typhoon and how it affected people.
However, Noli’s comment did not sit well with many netizens, who found it inappropriate and insensitive. Joey de Leon joined the conversation, taking to Twitter on Monday, July 31, to subtly address those who criticized the wedding’s timing.
Alongside a photo of Maine and Arjo on their special day, Joey wrote in his caption, “To those who meddled and said that these two shouldn’t have married during a typhoon, here’s my take—Menggay had planned her wedding before Egay!

Joey’s comment ignited discussions on social media, and he further elaborated on the topic during their TV5 noontime show, E.A.T., where he shared the sentiment with his co-hosts, Vic Sotto and Tito Sotto, while congratulating the newlyweds, Maine and Arjo.
In a witty warning, Joey said, “Mayroong mas malala kay Egay, yung epal, kaya mag-ingat kayo.”
