The afternoon drama of GMA Network continues to dominate the ratings, even amidst tough competition from the combined forces of ABS-CBN and TV5.
Abot Kamay Na Pangarap has been gaining momentum, especially with the intensifying conflict between Pinky Amador (Moira) and Carmina Villarroel (Lyneth), as well as Kazel Kinouchi (Zoey) and Jillian Ward (Analyn) in their respective roles as antagonists.
The story of Magandang Dilag, featuring the struggles of Sandy Andolong (Luisa) and Herlene Budol (Gigi), also contributes to the show’s success.
Valerie Concepcion’s portrayal of the antagonist Alexa in The Seed of Love has been received well by viewers.
On Wednesday (July 26) and Thursday (July 27), the viewership was notably high, possibly due to rainy weather prompting many people to stay at home and watch television.
On July 26, Afternoon Prime shows performed exceptionally well, outperforming some primetime programs of GMA Network. Following Eat Bulaga!, Abot Kamay Na Pangarap recorded a 13.3% rating, surpassing TV5’s Pira-Pirasong Paraiso at 1.6%. Magandang Dilag garnered 11.3% against TV5’s Nag-aapoy Na Damdamin with 1.4%. The Seed of Love followed at 8.6%, and Fast Talk with Boy Abunda scored 6.3%. Thai drama Bad Romeo, featuring Mario Maurer, recorded 3.4%, while Luv Is, starring Kyline Alcantara and Mavvy Legaspi, achieved 5.6%.
On Thursday, July 27, Afternoon Prime of GMA-7 continued to maintain high ratings. Abot Kamay na Pangarap secured 13.2%, while Pira-Pirasong Paraiso obtained 1.7%. Magandang Dilag maintained 11%, and Nag-aapoy na Damdamin had 1.7%. The Seed of Love scored 8.6%, and Fast Talk with Boy Abunda got 6%. Bad Romeo recorded 3.3%, and Luv Is achieved 5.7%.
This is a positive sign that TV viewers are returning to afternoon shows, benefitting the industry. Higher viewership leads to more advertisers, which in turn can fund the production of more shows and provide opportunities for artists to work. Hopefully, this trend continues to benefit Filipino viewers and the television industry as a whole.
