On June 26, Kapuso host Drew Arellano revealed why they had their 10th-year special for ‘Biyahe ni Drew’ in South Korea.
At the media conference for the 10th anniversary special of ‘Biyahe ni Drew,’ Arellano acknowledged the phenomenon of K-Drama and K-Pop to Filipinos.
“I think hindi natin pwedeng hindi banggitin that there is really such a K-Pop craze, eh, anything Korean, and at the same time, we’ve never featured that side of Korea before. Lalo na’t one whole episode of K-Pop, K-Drama, you know what I mean. It’s such a phenomenon.
“And I think one of our goals naman as a travel show is to let the viewers also have the chance to experience such a thing. And what we experienced in South Korea, lalo na– first Ep kasi focusing on K-Pop, K-Drama, second Ep is the adventure side.”
He then cited one of the locations they visited wherein tourists could immerse themselves in Korean culture.
“But if you [go back] to the K-Pop, K-Drama episode, tourists can actually immerse themselves in that culture. Because they have this parang one building, it’s actually a Korean Tourism organization. It’s called HiKR, [and] multi-level ‘yung building nila; anything K-Pop related, anything tourism related in Korea. May mga interactive floors, you can make your own music video. I mean, it’s such a grand thing.”
He then pointed out their goal of providing an option for tourists and travelers to experience the destination they feature in the show.
“The reason why we featured it as well is because, ‘Oh my God, pwede pala ang mga tourista dito.’ And that’s really for the tourists. And for sure, a lot, lalo na tayong mga Filipino ang daming K-Pop fans, K-Drama fans, so ang daming episode na automatic ‘yan na, ‘Oh, I want to experience that.’ To at least nagbibigay kami ng option to experience that as well.”
Arellano celebrates ‘Biyahe ni Drew‘ and its 10th anniversary with his wife Iya Villania-Arellano. The couple explores travel destinations in South Korea, such as the popular BTS bus stop and a film location of a hit K-drama. The Kapuso couple would also feature the culture and food while showing wonders and hidden gems in the country.
