On July 12, Viva artist Ataska Mercado revealed that she initiated her transition to doing Vivamax projects.
At the media conference for ‘Bisyo,’ Ataska (Ataska Mercado) said she pitched her career shift to Viva Head Vic Del Rosario.
“Yes, ako po ‘yung nagsabi kay Boss Vic, kasi as you know, I’ve been with Viva for a long time, eight years na po ako sa Viva and ako po ‘yung nag-propose kay Boss Vic na what if I tried to do Vivamax.
“Kasi I wanted to, gusto ko po talaga i-challenge ‘yung sarili ko bilang artista and I saw Vivamax as an opportunity to explore the characters that I can portray, to learn, to experience talaga.”
She then maintained that she was happy with her decision to take on more mature roles.
“Kasi ako, I love film– and I love acting, but I don’t know if I’m a good actress yet. Pero bawat projects given to me, I’m really happy that there are people around me. Madami akong natutunan sa kanila, sa mga co-actors ko, sa mga directors, sa writers.
“The transition has been, okay siya. Masaya ako sa desisyon ko.”
However, she acknowledged the nerve-wracking experience that comes with the career shift.
“Siyempre, it’s kind of nerve-wracking din naman, I haven’t done any of this, ‘yung mga pinortray ko in real life– ‘yung pinortray ko sa movie, wala akong gaanong experience sa real life. But it’s very helpful, kasi nga the people around me nga guided me.”
She also revealed that some of her friends and relatives did not approve of her career move.
“I think ‘yung pinaka, I guess, mahirap dito sa transition ko, is reactions from friends and family. Kasi, I know some friends and family na weren’t really supportive of my decision.
“Parang they’re saying na, ‘Oh bakit ka naman nag-Vivamax, nainip ka na ba?’ “
Her parents trusted her decision, though.
“And I don’t really have to explain anything to them, kasi it’s my decision as an adult, and my parents trusted me with this decision, and I trusted Viva.”
‘Bisyo’ stars Gold Aceron, Ataska, Aerol Carmelo, Angelica Hart, and Mark Anthony Fernandez.
Under the direction of Daniel R. Palacio, ‘Bisyo’ starts streaming on July 21 via Vivamax.
