Alden Richards broke his silence and shared his thoughts on the wedding of Maine Mendoza and Arjo Atayde.
Richards spoke about his former loveteam partner at the media conference for ‘Battle of the Judges’ last July 9.
“Maine Mendoza has been a very huge part of my life. Hindi ko alam kung ganon din ako sa kanya pero ako, that’s how I feel.”
The actor also acknowledged that he has not been very vocal about his thoughts on Mendoza and thinks this would be the right time to share his views on the upcoming milestone in her life.
“Parang hindi ako masyado naging vocal about this for the longest time and I think now’s the right time. Malaki ang pagpapasalamat ko sa kanya sa pagtiwala n’ya sa’kin. Although we may have some differences and misunderstandings in the past, at least, we remained good friends.”
He also reminisced how Mendoza used to talk about her plans with the actor and how she wanted to be wed someday. He described Mendoza as goal-oriented and has her life planned out.
“Now that she’s going into a path na talagang nakwekwento n’ya na sa’kin na gusto n’ya ever since, kase si Maine very planned yung buhay, very goal-oriented. ‘By the age of ganito, ganito na ako’.”
Richards also said that Mendoza receives the love she deserves from Atayde and that he is sincerely happy for the couple.
“So ngayon na nandyan s’ya ngayon, of course with Arjo, siguro yung nabibigay ni Arjo sa kanya is yung talagang love na deserve n’ya and I’m very happy for them, sincerely, sinasabi ko yun sa kanya. I really wish her well.
“I hope that wherever she is now, I hope that she’s very happy kase for the longest time, she deserves that and yun ang dapat para sa mga taong… hardworking. And kumbaga kase parang biglaan din yung dating po talaga sa buhay ni Maine ng show business eh so kumbaga I think this is her reward.”
The loveteam of Richards and Mendoza, popularly known as AlDub, started in the Kalyeserye portion of the Juan for All, All for Juan segment of the original ‘Eat Bulaga!’ It was a soap opera parody that featured improvised acting from Mendoza and Richards along with Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo, and Paolo Ballesteros. The plot followed the Filipino tradition of waiting for ‘tamang panahon.’

The pairing became iconic as they only interacted on split screen, having lip sync performances or handwritten messages. This made their first-ever face-to-face interaction a historic TV event.
As a love team, Richards and Mendoza starred in the hit films ‘My Bebe Love’ (2015) and ‘Imagine You and Me’ (2016). In 2018, the two decided to focus on their solo careers. AlDub fans have remained solid, though.
In 2019, Mendoza confirmed her relationship with Atayde. The couple’s wedding is set to happen this year.
