PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) joined Alagang Kapatid Foundation, Inc. (AKFI), the social development arm of TV5, on its 10th year anniversary celebration.
During the celebration held at the TV5 Media Center, PLDT and Smart, joined by their social outreach arm PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), signified their full commitment to joining this cause and supporting AKFI in its initiatives focused on sustainability, livelihood, healthcare, housing rehabilitation, food security, and disaster resilience.
The PLDT Group also turned over one Ligtas Kit, an all-in-one emergency communications package, to AKFI. Each PLDT-Smart Ligtas Kit provides quick, emergency communications support to communities in times of a disaster through power, mobile technology, and connectivity equipment.
“This Ligtas Kit will not only keep our communities safe and prepared but will also keep our AKFI friends safe and secure as they carry out their services on ground,” said Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Head of Group Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.
“AKFI remains fully committed to helping more kapatids and bringing them much-needed aid in the coming years, continuing what we have started in the last decade. This is part of AKFI’s mission to become reliable partners of Filipinos nationwide,” said Menchie Silvestre, AKFI Executive Director.
Established in 2011, AKFI has helped over 2,000,000 beneficiaries nationwide through extending social services and mounting disaster response, recovery, and rehabilitation. Through its humanitarian efforts, AKFI realizes its battle cry, “Kaisa ka, hanggang kaya nang mag-isa.” At the event, AKFI recognized PLDT, Smart, and PSF as its reliable partners in delivering help to those who need it the most.
AKFI continues to assist Filipinos in need through TV5’s various media channels and strengthened partnerships with other civil society organizations, government agencies, and the private sector.
Anchored on the core value of malasakit, the PLDT Group pledged to further support AKFI’s initiatives, together with the rest of Tulong Kapatid, the consortium of companies and foundations led by businessman Manuel V Pangilinan, to reach more Filipinos and extend much-needed help to communities in the coming years.
