‘CIA with BA’ took on the case of a woman who sought the advice of the public service program after she acted as a guarantor to the loan agreement of her friend amounting to Php 280,000.00.
Aneesha, the victim, came to the show’s “Payong Kapatid” segment, as shown in the replay episode July 16, as unfortunately, her friend has been nowhere to be found and could never pay the debt so the responsibility became hers. She had to borrow money from several people to be able to pay the huge amount.
Sibling senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano, together with TV host Boy Abunda, laid down to her and to the viewers the rules to remember when signing as a guarantor to any loan agreement.
“Rule number one, isipin mo na na ikaw ang magbabayad,” said Senator Alan.
“Rule number two, i-guarantee mo ‘yung kaya mo lang,” he continued.
“Rule number three, kumuha ka ng sarili mong guarantee, which is not necessarily a guarantor. What is that guarantee? Kung meron siyang isasangla sa ‘yo,” Alan further explained as he ended.
Senator Pia added that it is also important to clearly state in the agreement what a guarantor must guarantee in case the actual borrower could not pay.
“Principal ba? Interes ba? Kahit one paragraph lang ‘yan, napakahalaga niyan,” she said.
Before the segment ended, the hosts promised to help her legally and practically to be able to pay the debts.
“It’s a painful lesson but sometimes the most painful lesson—pinakamatatamis naman ‘yung bunga pag natutunan na natin ‘yung lesson na ‘yon,” said Senator Alan.
‘CIA with BA’ continues the legacy of Senator Rene Cayetano, the late father of Senator Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano.
The senior Cayetano was a renowned lawyer who gained fame through his radio and TV program ‘Compañero y Compañera,’ which aired from 1997 to 2001.
Don’t miss ‘CIA with BA’ every Sunday at 11:30 p.m. on GMA7.
