On June 22, Drag Race Philippines Season 1 Queen Turing Quinto headlined GCash’s 2023 Pride Campaign #WerkWithPride.
At the GTalks: Werk With Pride event, Turing voiced out her appreciation for being part of GCash’s Pride Campaign for LGBTQIA+ entrepreneurs.
“Honestly, hindi pa rin po ako makapaniwala. Nakapag-perform na ako lahat, nakapagsalita na ako, iniinterview pa rin ako. Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala.
“Pero yeah, sobrang– siguro masaya lang po talaga, like sobrang saya. Kasi hindi ko naman–people might know me because of Drag Race but hindi ko naman ine-expect ‘yun kasi hindi naman ako nanalo and all that.
“Pero, I’m so thankful that GCash believed in me. They love my story– enough to highlight it, to be part of their pride stories.”
As for her GCash Pride Story, Turing recounted how her fans helped her get her air conditioner fixed, which is sorely needed by drag performers, through the GCash App.
“Siguro, there’s this story about an Aircon, kasi ang buhay ko lang ay ‘yung Facebook Live noong lockdown. Nasira ‘yung Aircon ko. Tapos it was forty-two thousand ‘yung pagpapagawa noong Aircon, kasi split type siya. Tapos hindi ko alam kung saan ko siya aanohin. Tapos nagsho-show ako, dalawang beses na nagsho-show na tatlong electric fan ‘yung nasa harapan ko pero pawis na pawis pa rin ako. Kasi mataba ako eh, plus size ako eh, pawisin, mainit, masikip, tapos puro ilaw.

“Tapos sabi ko kailangan ko na ng Aircon, tapos sinabi ko lang doon sa live na magla-live ako para magpagawa ng Aircon ko para hindi na ako lapot ha. Tapos napagawa ko siya that night. That night people helped me. Sabog ‘yung GCash ko, tapos napagawa ko kinabukasan ‘yung Aircon. Ang saya.”
She then highlighted her advocacy of bringing joy and happiness to the LGBTQIA+ community through her platform.
“I think my job, my career as a drag queen. Being part of the LGBTQIA+ community and as a drag queen, I’m very proud to be a channel for happiness, a medium of relief, and a medium of fantasy.
“Napapasaya ko ang community ko, hindi lang basta ang rainbow community, pati ‘yung mga manonood nating cis-gender, men and women. I’m proud and happy to be that person na nagpapasaya ng tao.”
Aside from using her platform, Turing also expressed her support for the SOGIE Equality Bill.
