On June 20, Tito Sotto claimed that ‘Eat Bulaga!’ is the longest-running television show in the world.
At the media event for the TVJ and the Legit Dabarkads, Sotto stated that ‘Eat Bulaga!’ is the longest-running TV show globally.
“Right now, it’s already the longest-running television show in the world. Maghanap pa kayo, 44 years ha.”
He then discussed their plans to continue the TV show’s title with their partnership with TV5.
“Pero, yes you are right, we are working on continuing with that. And also whether Eat Bulaga or E.A.T which could stand for ‘Eto Ang Totoo,’ whatever we name with this, kami ‘yun eh. So whatever it is, we will strive to have it continue, even past Gold, past 50 years old. Pero ‘yun talaga ang panaginip naming tatlo talaga, makarating ng 50.”
Sotto’s claim, though, can be refuted by the fact that there are other TV shows in the world which aired for more than 50 years.
Some of them are the ‘American TV Shows General Hospital’ (1963-present), ‘The Tonight Show’ (1954-present), ‘Guiding Light’ (1952-2009), ‘As the World Turns’ (1956-2010), ‘Days of Our Lives’ (1965-present), ‘NBC’s Meet The Press’ (1947-present), and ‘The Today Show’ (1952-present).
What is factual is that ‘Eat Bulaga!’ is the longest-running TV show in the Philippines. Airing up to the present, the show began to be seen on TV in 1979.
TVJ trio returns to TV with a new noontime show under TV5 starting July 1.
Joining them are Legit Dabarkads Allan K, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Maine Mendoza, Paolo Ballesteros, Ryan Agoncillio, and Ryza Mae Dizon.
TVJ and the Dabarkads parted ways with TAPE Inc. on May 31 after an internal issue between the noontime show and the company.
