In a recent interview with broadcaster Julius Babao and media personality Christine Bersola-Babao on One PH’s “Julius and Tintin,” Filipino politician and TV host Vicente “Tito” Sotto III opened up about the challenges faced by the comedy trio TVJ (Tito, Vic, and Joey) and their relationship with TAPE Inc. and GMA Network.
During the interview, which took place on June 1, Sotto discussed the issues between the ‘Eat Bulaga’ hosts and TAPE Inc. When asked about the factors they would consider when choosing the right network, Sotto emphasized the importance of working well with others.
“Marami kaming pinag-uusapan eh, pero malaking bagay siguro ‘yong marunong makisama,” Sotto said.
Sotto revealed that incidents occurred in the dressing room at APT Studios following their separation from TAPE Inc. on May 31. When asked if the “Dabarkads” (referring to the ‘Eat Bulaga’ hosts and members) would join them in the transfer, Sotto confirmed that they agreed. They signed a courtesy letter and/or a mass resignation letter, including popular Filipino actresses Maine Mendoza and Ryzza Mae Dizon.
“Lahat kasi kami pumunta sa host room, gumagawa kami ng statement at pinirmahan nilang lahat…”
“They wrote a courtesy letter na sila rin ay humihiwalay na rin sa Taping Corporation,” Sotto explained.
However, Sotto denied any talks or meetings prior to their departure. However, he acknowledged that a week ago, Jalosjos paid Joey De Leon and Vic Sotto.
When asked if there were discussions between TVJ and GMA 7 management regarding the issue, Sotto stated that no such talks had taken place.
“Wala, Wala, Not a hint,” Sotto responded. “Tsaka nakita ko ‘yong… may picture akong nakita na magkakasama sila nina ano eh…, Si Romy, member of board, tsaka si Tony Tuviera tsaka Tony Gozon.”
Regarding his personal feelings towards GMA, Sotto clarified that he held no grudges, despite their history. He said they knew each other well and there were no hard feelings.
The interview concluded with Sotto expressing his gratitude and heartfelt message to ‘Eat Bulaga’ fans around the world. He acknowledged their unwavering support and emphasized that their journey would not have been possible without fans’ loyalty.
“Sa kanila na tumangkilik ng Eat Bulaga, tumangkilik ng TVJ, taos pusong nagpapasalamat. ‘di naman kami makarating dito kung hindi dahil sakanila,” Sotto concluded.
Despite initial misconceptions that ‘Eat Bulaga’ was ending, TAPE Inc. clarified that the show would continue airing on TV with new hosts. Actress-host Main Mendoza also clarified in the comment section of her Instagram post that ‘Eat Bulaga’ will still air on another channel under another management.
However, with the news about TVJ’s departure, loyal fans, known as the “Solid Dabarkads,” are eagerly awaiting what the future holds for the hosts and members of ‘Eat Bulaga’.
