The sensational PPOP group embarks on a phase of their career, as they try to navigate their journey to superstardom practically by themselves.
SB19 claims self-autonomy, as they officially established their own management company, 1Z Entertainment.
Teased by the group’s members as their long-awaited move to explore their craft, originality, and potential, the upcoming company is also envisioned by frontman, John Paulo Nase a.k.a. Pablo, to spark a movement that could benefit the entire OPM industry.
“Hindi lang po siya for SB19. Para po sa amin, movement na siya. Doon po talaga papasok yung 1Z Entertainment,” Pablo said last June 9, during the media launch of PAGTATAG, the group’s sophomore EP. This is part of a planned trilogy that’s intended to be completed by the upcoming EP, Simula at Wakas. SB19 hopes their company will enable them to explore new venues and opportunities aside from singing.
During the press conference, Josh Cullen recalled how they were just trainees building their own company was already part of the plan.
“It all started with a crazy idea during trainee days. Parang nagbibiruan kami na balang araw gagawa kami ng sariling company, our own pacing, our own management, syempre our own handpicked people na pinagkakatiwalaan namin,” he told the press.
“Dati po, palagi naming parang biruan pa lang, ‘yang Araneta, ‘yung mga Wish, MYX, talagang during trainee days, dream na namin siya, and it’s one of our dreams to build our own company,” Cullen said, adding a mantra that seems to have been driving the group, ever since.
“Sabi nga nila di ba, ‘crazy people are the one who get to really change the world’. So yun po ‘yung parang ngayon, ita-try naming gawin, ” he shared.
1Z Entertainment, according to Josh, ushers in an era for the boys, as they also venture not just into self-management but also managing other talents, as well.
“Since we’re now in-charge, ito pong 1Z, we build it not just for SB19, but for the whole P-POP or OPM industry. Kasi we want to siyempre, to parang challenge, the industry, of course the market. Siyempre, alam namin na maraming talented Filipinos. In the future, we want to hone our talents as well, and of course, ipagpatuloy yung nangyayari sa atin ngayon,” he told the press.
“Kasi may momentum, nakukuha na natin ang momentum, we just need to push harder para talagang mag-grow ito at makamit natin talaga ‘yung parang endgame na tinatawag natin. Siyempre, grow the OPM, and hopefully in the future, help the Philippine economy,” he added, proclaiming the group’s goal to create a new revenue stream for the country, the same way KPOP has been helping the South Korean economy.
Cullen acknowledged the risks attached to their decision to leave their previous mother company, admitting that it would take them some time before they are able to navigate their new roles, smoothly.
“So now that we have our own pacing, we have our own freedom, sobrang masaya po kami, kasi ngayon natatry namin honestly yung trial and errors na meron. Siyempre, nandiyan ang problems, nandiyan ang mga bagong bagay na hindi maiiwasn, pero we are happy kasi we are doing it, at least, kami kami na ang nagmamanage,” he explained.
SB19 is currently gearing up for a World Tour, which begins on June 24, at the Araneta Coliseum.
