On June 5, director Sam Hargrave highlighted the 21-minute-long-take-action scene they have in store for Extraction 2.
At the media event for Extraction 2, which LionhearTV covered, Hargrave said that the shoot (which lasted 21 minutes) took around three to four months of preparation.
“We tried– in the first film, we had what it was like an 11-minute-and-a-half oner, and during this film, we went for 21 minutes and seven seconds. And it takes a lot of preparation. [I think we] rehearsed for three or four months to get all the elements in place.”
He then revealed that production had to divide the action sequences and seamlessly stitch the scenes together to come up with the 21-minute long take.
“And then our version of the oner is the experience as if it was one shot. But because we had so many different elements, so many different moving parts, sometimes literally–we have moving trains, helicopters, Chris Hemsworth–that we have to break it up into slightly smaller pieces and stitch it up altogether, so it feels like one continuous scene.”
Hargrave, who also worked as a stuntman, assured fans of the film that they would make ‘bigger and better’ action scenes for Extraction 2.
“Well– it’s not a spoiler to say that Tyler Rake is alive. And we’re going to follow him on a wild adventure. We are going to dive deeper into who he is, and what makes him tick, and try to make the action bigger and better. Hope you guys enjoy that.”
Earlier, Australian actor Chris Hemsworth (Tyler Rake) arrived with Hargrave in Manila this June 5 for the APAC premiere of the sequel to the 2020 action-thriller film.
The action film is based on the graphic novel ‘Ciudad’ by Ande Parks, from a story by Ande Parks, Joe Russo & Anthony Russo, with illustrations by Fernando León González features Hemsworth with Olga Kurylenko, Golshifteh Farahani, Daniel Bernhardt, and many more.
Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Hemsworth, Patrick Newall, and Sam Hargrave will produce the upcoming Netflix action film. Jake Aust, Benjamin Grayson, Steven Scavelli, Christopher Markus, and Stephen McFeely are joining in as executive producers.
Extraction 2 streams on June 16 via Netflix.
