On May 24, director Pam Miras recalled her journey from directing on GMA Network to her first studio film in Viva.
At the media conference for Star Dancer, which LionhearTV covered, Miras cited her experience working with GMA Network, such as being a 2nd-unit director in Kapuso TV shows.
“Yes, ito po ‘yung first studio film ko. Pero, in between then and now, naging mas ano–mas nagwo-work ako sa TV. So nagdi-direct ako for GMA Network as Second Unit Director and nagsusulat for other people”
Her most recent venture into being a 2nd-unit director was the Kapuso hit primetime series Maria Clara at Ibarra.
“Ang pinaka-recent ko siguro ay ‘yung Maria Clara at Ibarra, which nag-second unit po ako for Direk Zig Dulay. And marami din pong afternoon soaps, usually like doing second unit work. Yes, ‘yung sa concept naman, sulat, nagsusulat din po ako before.
She then recounted how she pitched her first studio film to Viva in 2021.
“Matagal ko na po itong na-pitch. I think 2021 pa. Parang I was–parang I was planning to pitch like a horror film pero nag-hahanap po sila ng mas sexy so nag-pitch po ako ng film na parang sexy ang theme. And ayun eventually na-green light.”
As for casting the upcoming sexy film, Miras noted that she considered her stars’ background in dancing.
“In terms of casting po, nagpa-go-see po kay Rose and kay Denise na parang– alam ko Rose is a talented dancer, si Denise din pareho silang girl group.
“Tinignan ko lang actually, shoe-in na sila gusto ko silang maka-work pareho. Tinignan ko lang kung sino ang mas bagay sa character po kay Odessa which is ‘yung lead and si Joselle ‘yung kanyang nemesis.”
The upcoming Vivamax film Star Dancer stars Rose Van Ginkel, Denise Esteban, and Arron Villaflor, with young Viva stars Erika Balagtas, Arah Alonzo, Karl Aquino, and Billy Villeta.
Star Dancer streams on Vivamax starting June 2.
