Kyline Alcantara portrays Abby/Angelica in the newest GMA Network TV series, “LUV IS: Love at First Read.” Alongside Mavy Legaspi, she is poised to make us feel ‘kilig’ in the TV adaptation of the hit Wattpad web novel.
During the show’s regional promotion in Matina, Davao City last May 20, Alcantara shared her thoughts on her character, the series, and what sets it apart from other shows.
The enchanting storyline of “LUV IS: Love at First Read” revolves around Kudos [Mavy Legaspi], a secret romantic who stumbles upon a diary and believes its owner, Abby, is his perfect match. However, he also encounters Angelica, a skeptical and love-weary young woman.
She expressed, “Oh well, sa series po isa lang naman siya, sa diary po Abby pangalan ko kasi hindi ako nagpapakilala sa diary, if you’re gonna compare it sa ‘Love is Caught in his Arms,’ mas mature lang po yung samin ng onti.” It’s clear that Kyline has embraced the complexity of her character, bringing a sense of depth and authenticity to the role of Angelica.
The talented actress believes that “LUV IS: Love at First Read” is not just for a specific generation but has a universal appeal. She emphasized, “Sa tingin ko po, the fact that it’s a feel-good series. Hindi lang siya pang Gen Z’s kundi para sa lahat po siya kasi hindi lang naman kami yung focus nung series.” The show aims to touch the hearts of viewers of all ages, creating an inclusive viewing experience.
One aspect that Kyline is particularly proud of is the chemistry among the cast members.
“Siguro po yung sobrang naproproud kami sa series na ito is yung cast po talaga, pinagmamalaki po namin sa bawat magtatanong about our series is really our cast. Kasi ang ganda ng chemistry namin at yun po yung hinohope namin na maramdaman din nila, pinagkaiba sa mga kapuso shows? Lahat naman po ng mga kapuso shows eh maganda,” shared confidently by Kyline.
Stepping into the shoes of Angelica, Kyline faced some challenges.
“Siguro po dahil nga feel-good type of series siya, eh ako sanay ako sa mga drama, yun po yung nahirapan ako, may mga eksena na kahit konting iyak lang yung kailangan binubuhos ko.” Despite her prior experience in dramatic roles, Kyline pushed herself to deliver an emotionally resonant performance, even in the lighthearted moments,” the young actress admitted.
She also shared, “siguro po yung preparation mas binigyan ko ng pressure yung sarili ko para mabigyan ng buhay yung character, syempre kinilala ko pa rin yung character ni Angelica, ano yung props niya, mas binigyan ko ng ganong importansya yung character.”
“LUV IS: Love at First Read” is directed by Mark Sicat dela Cruz, with Carlo Cannu as the Associate Director. The series premiered on June 12 and airs on GMA-7 from Mondays to Fridays at 5:40 p.m.
