In a heartfelt announcement on June 19, Kris Aquino shared that her son Bimby Aquino has returned to Manila, Philippines, and she encouraged him to reconcile with his father James Yap.
Aquino shared her joy in a now-deleted Instagram post, expressing her gratitude for the significant step Bimby took on Father’s Day. Aquino shared that Bimby has had access to the contact information for nearly a week and despite being hesitant at first, he bravely initiated the process of rebuilding his relationship with his father.
“Yesterday [on] Father’s Day, my bunso made me proud. He’s had the number to contact for almost a week, and the reluctance was so real, yet he took the first step towards rebuilding a relationship that I know will require some time to repair. Pero ang mahalaga ay nagsimula na,” Kris started.
Aquino expressed her desire to prevent Bimby from experiencing the same fatherlessness she went through during Martial Law, without explicitly mentioning Yap’s name. Netizens, however, inferred that Yap was the subject of her statement.
“On a happier note: no names shall be named BUT it will be easy for you to figure out… maraming pinagdaanan. maraming hindi pagkakaunawaan pero ayokong masabi na pinipigilan ko si bimb… my own childhood was fatherless because of Martial Law so why’d i subject my bunso to the same fate?” she wrote.
Aquino went on to explain that since Bimby turned eight, he has had the freedom to decide for himself. Now, at 16, Aquino shared that she had a conversation with him on Father’s Day, encouraging him to take the first step toward rebuilding his relationship with his father.
“From the time Bimb was 8, he had the freedom to decide… now at 16 i told him- “When someone reaches out after 7 years, and there’s a chance for PEACE, then everyone WINS.’”
As of this writing, Kris Aquino has already deleted her Instagram post.
Aquino entered into a civil marriage with PBA professional player James Yap on July 10, 2005. The following year, she announced her pregnancy, but their relationship faced a controversy in 2006 due to Yap’s infidelity. In April 2007, Aquino gave birth to her second son, James Carlos ‘Bimby’ Aquino Yap Jr., in Makati. Aquino and Yap eventually separated in 2010, and their marriage was officially annulled in 2012.
Aquino struggles with autoimmune diseases but she remains committed to her family’s well-being. She announced that she has been diagnosed with chronic spontaneous urticaria, autoimmune thyroiditis, and Churg-Strauss syndrome.
Kris Aquino’s journey in the entertainment industry began in 1990 when she starred in her first-ever movie, “Pido Dida: Sabay Tayo,” alongside renowned comedian Rene Requiestas, also known as Cheetaeh.
